Hi, I’m Pedro Mendes and be very welcome to my website! My one line bio is “Somewhere at the intersection of Digital and Culture“. For the longer version, read on.
I have a degree in Computer Science, and have since taken several other courses, namely on Cultural Production and Management, Photography, Digital Marketing, Video Capture and Editing, and Media Relations. I am also an avid reader and I contribute heavily to keeping bookstores profitable.
In 2006 I joined Coffeepaste, a site aimed at helping Portuguese artists find work and training. It has since grown to include articles and interviews with cultural agents. We have also started providing training for artists. Coffeepaste is part of my cultural association Linguagem Próxima. In late 2017, I started contraCenas, a site where a growing team of writers and I publish about cultural events. More on these in the Projects section of the website.
I’ve been blogging and building websites since 2001. Some of my recent sites were, besides Coffeepaste and contraCenas, a site for a shorts competition, one for an entrepreneuship idea contest, and sites for artists such as Anton Skrzypiciel. Find out more in the Web Design section of the website.
I do translation work: Portuguese – English and English – Portuguese.
I am a passionate writer. I have mostly written online, on my several blogs. But in 2016 I published a book featuring interviews with 13 Portuguese startup founders, called “The Path to Success”. It came out of my entrepreneurship related site, The Start Zone (presently on hold), and is available on Amazon. Find out more in the Books section of the website.
I love photography, although I haven’t had much time to dedicate to it lately.
