Hi, I’m Pedro Mendes and be very welcome to my website! My one line bio is “Somewhere at the intersection of Digital and Culture“.

My current work projects: Coordinator at Coffeepaste, artistic advisor at O Espaço do Tempo, and member of the

I have a degree in Computer Science, and have since taken several other courses, namely on Cultural Production and Management, Photography, Digital Marketing, Video Capture and Editing, Media Relations, and Cultural policy. I am also doing a Postgraduate Course on Cultural Management and Sustainability at the University of Coimbra. I am an avid reader and I contribute heavily to keeping  bookstores profitable.

In 2006 I helped found Coffeepaste, a site aimed at helping Portuguese artists find work and training. It has since grown to include articles and interviews with cultural agents. We also provide training for artists. Coffeepaste is part of my cultural association Linguagem Próxima. In late 2017, I started contraCenas, a site where a growing team of writers and I publish about cultural events. contraCenas has been integrated as Coffeepaste’s reviews section.

I am a passionate writer. I have mostly written online, on my several blogs. But in 2016 I published a book featuring interviews with 13 Portuguese startup founders, called “The Path to Success”. It came out of my entrepreneurship related site, The Start Zone (presently on hold), and is available on Amazon.

I have been a part of several juries, namely for the BPI / ET / la “Caixa” Grants, the Portuguese Platform for Performing Arts, Bolsa A/B, Prémios Autores (dance section) and the D Maria II National Theatre Revelation Prize.

I love photography and travel, although I haven’t had much time to dedicate to either lately.
