On the Importance of Content

“Content rules”, so the old saying goes. It is true offline, and it is true online. Everyone says it, but does everyone live by it? Not by far.
It is everywhere: websites, blogs, social media, email, outdoors, TV, eBooks. The list goes on…

Content is the way we reach people, who we wish will turn into prospects, into costumers, and (in our dreams) into advocates. We use content to get people to come to us.

The Rule of Seven is an old marketing principle. It states that a prospect needs to see or hear your message at least seven times before they take action and buy from you. And it doesn’t have to be a pure marketing message. Actually, it’s a bad idea to sell all the time. People are tired of being sold to. It is much better to provide people with useful and engaging content, establish a relationship with them, and only then try to sell them something they may be interested in.

It’s never been easier to communicate with other people. Huge millions of people are online, on the different social platforms. Facebook alone has over 2 billion users. Instagram has over 1 billion. Twitter has over 300 million. Not to reach out to these people is a huge mistake and a sure way to miss out on a big opportunity and profit.

It’s very easy to set up a Facebook page or a Twitter or Instagram account. It will only take some minutes to do so and you’re set. But the hard part (and work) comes after. You have to keep providing interesting and engaging content (via your site, blog, social media platforms). You have to decide what kind of content you will share. When you will share it. Who you will want to reach. How you are going to interact. How you are going to react when things go wrong (and believe me, they probably will).

If you’re not constantly creating content and putting it in front of people through the different channels, people won’t know about you. It will be as if you don’t exist. And do you know what they’ll do? They will go to your competitor who is doing a better job.
