Anxiety and depression often come together, and sometimes are confused. Neither is pleasant, and I’ve endured both: depression I dealt with and has been controled (so far); anxiety is a more tricky beast and lives with me with varying degrees, depending on what happens around me.
I agree with Julia Bretas when she said
If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.
This post cames about as I’m reading the book “First, we make the beast beautiful“, by Sarah Wilson. I’m learning a lot from her experiences, and have taken so far several useful tips to deal with anxiety. Two of the ones I’m immediately putting into practice are walking and meditating.
I hate running, but I love walking. Ever since the pandemic started, I made it a goal (not kept) to take a daily walk around my neighbourhood. Up to now, I may have done it twice a week. But reading what Sarah has to say about it gave me a boost of motivation. I will start today.
Also, I’ve been meditating on and off for a while now. At times, I’ve managed to do it several days in a row, but other times I forget or put it off. I am commited to meditating daily from now on. Since I’m a tech person, I installed the app “Headspace” and am giving it a try. Guided meditations help me focus.
I’m only half way through the book, so many more insights may come, and I may write about them here.
I wrote this more personal post, well… because I can. What’s the point of having your own domain and website if not to do whatever you want with it?
I intend to post more regularly, with my own thoughts on life, culture and digital, and I’ll try to use a photo taken by me, as photography is a passion of mine.
Stay safe, and talk soon.
