Alphabet Poem

Although I am feeling sad
Blackbirds sing in the night sky
Counting their blessings alone
Desiring no more than to fly

Enticing me to keep going
Feeling like stopping for good
Good friends will come to my side
Helping me be understood

I don’t like feeling like this
Jokingly saying it loud
Keeping my fears aside
Loving my friends, feeling proud

My life is always too deep
Nothing is further from truth
One by one thoughts dissipate
Pulling lies with every tooth

Quality people are rare
Rest assured that ain’t a lie
Sitting here tasting my tears
To myself holding a sigh

Under the sky I survive
Viewing each day passing by
Wondering who I’ll become
X marks the spot, will I try?

Y don’t you love me tonight?
Zero is no pretty sight.

(originally written in 2016 as part of a writing prompts challenge. This one stated “Write a 26-line poem using all the letters of the alphabet. Have the first line start with the letter “A,” the second “B,” the third “C,” etc.”)
