According to the news, football player Pedro Mendes will most probably be signing up for Sporting Clube de Portugal this weekend. When I wondered what the unusual ammount of traffic to my homepage was about, I realised what it was: Football is big in Portugal.
So, I’m sorry to disappoint some of you, but I’m not the Pedro Mendes you may be looking for. Despite being a Sporting fan and being happy about this transfer, there’s not much more I can tell you about it.
Of course, you’re more than welcome to browse and see if there’s anything else you like.

Rufus Wainwright – My phone’s on vibrate for you
Chatting with a friend yesterday brought memories of Rufus, his music, and the memorable concert he gave in Lisbon a couple of years ago. Searching for some videos on YouTube to show him, I found out his mother passed away a few days ago, very sad news. Though, the message Rufus left on his website regarding this event manages to be a positive one. We should really try to see the glass as half full, and enjoy the little time we were given the best way we can. I leave you with his words:
“When inevitably I read today in the papers that my mother lost her battle with cancer last night, I am filled with an immense desire to add that this battle, though lost, was tremendously fruitful during these last three and a half years of her life. She witnessed her daughter’s marriage, the creation of my first opera, the birth of her first grandchild Arcangelo, and gave the greatest performance of her life to a packed crowd at the Royal Albert Hall in London.”. Grizzly Bear – Two Weeks
Books I’ve read in December 2009
Wednesday, January 6th, 2010Now I’ve listed them I realize it’s more than I thought: Eight books in a month. This is a good rate to get rid of the pile I still have next to bed. Now if only I can control the “Buy Now” impulse…
Here is the list:
- A Whole New Mind, by Daniel H. Pink
- Up Till Now, by William Shatner
- The Medici Effect, by Frans Johansson
- “O Banqueiro Anarquista”, by Fernando Pessoa
- To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee
- Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, by Patrick Suskind
- “Leite Derramado”, by Chico Buarque
- “Uma noite não são dias”, by Mário Zambujal
Great campaign in praise of books.
Have a Great 2010!
