A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini, is the story of two women, Mariam and Laila, before, during, and after the Taliban rule in Afghanistan. It’s a deep, heartbreaking account of their lives that has you hooked from page one. The author decided to portray the feminine point of view with this novel, having written The Kite Runner from the perspective of a boy/man. It is hard to describe this book, so many are the moving and at times hard to read descriptions of suffering these two women endure. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Do not miss it. You won’t forget it in a long time.
